The Problem
A residential general contractor building high end homes was continually late and over-budget. Undocumented change orders, disputed client signoffs, and uncoordinated schedules were highlighted in our preliminary fact-finding. In addition, office staff struggled with a PC-based system that could not be accessed remotely in the field. Documents, such as site drawings and component specs, were constantly misplaced.
The Solution
Workmode designed, built, and implemented a complete project management system within 60 days. Since the client did not have in-house IT capabilities, Workmode trained existing staff to use the web-based solution. The first test, a two-bedroom condo, came in on budget, saved over 15% in eliminated change-orders, and cut the usual end-of-job accounting time by 80%.
With a focus on open standards and the latest open source tools, innovative concepts were implemented quickly and inexpensively. For example, interactive CAD drawings with SVG graphics, created using the open DXF data exchange, were fully integrated into the client's system using no-cost display tools.
